FAQ

  • The curtain rod and track?
Privacy on Demand's patented system, in either bronze or white, is assembled at your property when the curtains are installed for a perfect fit.
  • Attaching the valance?
The valance is attached to the Privacy on Demand track system by using high-temp adhesive hook and loop fasteners (Velcro). Velcro is applied to the track and screwed down to hold the Velcro in place.
  • Any payment plans?
Unfortunately, no financing is available. We do require a 66% deposit when placing your order and the remaining 34% balance when the install is complete. If you prefer, you can also pay in three installments at a rate of 33%. The first installment locks your spot in the Privacy On Demand manufacturing queue. The second installment is due when the track is installed, and the third after the curtains are installed.
  • Tying curtains into bundles?
The curtain panels are fitted with a Sunbrella fabric tie-back. However, we recommend waiting until the fabric has softened before using them, as they may cause chalking. Tie-backs should be tied taut which keeps them from moving, but not so tightly that they damage or crease the fabric material.
  • How do the curtains stay down when it's windy?
Our curtains are set up to impede wind from having a large effect. They are ideal for those requiring privacy on screen enclosures or pool cages, using marine-grade webbing straps sewn into the backside of the bottom with side-release buckles firmly connecting them to the underside. When no aluminum screen structure is present under patio headers, steel chain is integrated into the bottom hem for added weight and diminished movement in gusts of air.
  • May I run the curtains through a washing machine?
In the past, our customers have ran their curtains through a coin laundry, high-capacity washing machines. However, it is not needed and not recommended. Pressure-wash the curtains either when hanging on the tracks, over fencing, or laid out on your driveway or lawn. It's easy to remove yellow or green pollen by using Wet & Forget, found at any home improvement box stores.
  • Maximum height of curtains?
The curtains should be no taller than 9 feet, and between 7 and 8 feet is generally sufficient for privacy. We can make the curtains as tall as you desire. However, there are additional costs associated with curtains that are taller than 9 feet, as well as the inconvenience of working with large sections of cloth and using zippers completely when they are taller than 9 feet.
  • The fabric materials we use?
We use Sunbrella Marine Canvas for its UV resistance to fading and 10-year fade-free warranty. This fabric is waterproof and can be cleaned with bleach. As the leader in marine and outdoor furniture, Sunbrella's fabric is built to last and is very durrable!
  • Payments accepted?
    Cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Will the track effect my screen enclosure?
Privacy On Demand's track system helps reinforce your pool cage as long as you follow the wind damage mitigation procedures recommended in your curtain warranty and care instructions.
  • How many colors are there?
The Sunbrella marine canvas is available in more than 100 colors and three different texture patterns.
  • How to prepare the curtains for storms and hurricanes?
Storms are no problem for Privacy On Demand systems, which make it easy to store curtains safely. After removing the stoppers from either end of each track section, pull the curtain panel out until the nylon slider of the hook assembly slides free from the end of the track. You do not need to remove the hooks from the grommets. If the anticipated wind speed is going to be low, you can leave the curtains hanging. Either tie them back or pull them together to form larger bundles of curtains and tie them together. The curtains and track system should never be buckled down and zipped together during storms or high winds.
  • Do the curtains offer wind protection?
Our outdoor curtains are not designed to act as a wind barrier. They are primarily made for privacy, shade, and décor. You can leave the curtains closed in the winter to block the cold breezes. As a precaution, you should unfasten the curtains from the bottom of your enclosure during winds over 20 mph. In preparation for hurricanes and larger storms, we've made it easy to take them down.
  • How long does it take to install the curtains?
Curtains normally arrive around 4 to 6 weeks after submitting your order with the Privacy On Demand system. Installation normally takes 1 to 6 hours depending on your order.
  • How to clean the curtains?
A mixture of water and bleach solution can be used to remove dirt or spots. Sunbrella recommends to hose them off at least one time every month. See Sunbrella's care and cleaning guide.
  • Do curtains block heavy wind?
It's best to NOT use the curtains to block winds higher than 20 miles per hour. The curtains are made to block light, cold winter breezes and keep your patio or pool area warm.
  • How to open and close the curtains?
Simply, pull the curtains by hand back and forth across the track system.
  • Will the curtains keep my patio dry?
Because our main goal is privacy and UV shade protection, our curtains are not typically used to keep patios and lanais dry. The curtains are however water-proof, and may help some to keep some water out by forcing some water to run vertically down.
  • Maintaining the rod and track system?
The Privacy on Demand track system is nearly maintenance-free. Sometimes debris and dirt will build up in the track and it will need to be cleared with the use of a pressure washer or spray hose. Alumi-wax can be purchased through Privacy On Demand's online store. A little bit of Alumi-wax will help keep your curtains sliding like brand new.
  • How do we install the curtains?
Our patented track system is installed on-site. Your curtains are hung into each of the tracks. The tracks system is made using similar aluminum products as aluminum pool enclosures. You can choose bronze or white track depending on the color of your screen enclosure. The track looks like it’s a natural part of your enclosure when completed.
  • Lifespan of the curtains?
Properly maintained and used curtains will last at least 10 years. Sunbrella marine canvas and marine hardware is built to last.
  • How much privacy do the curtains offer?
It is our goal to block as many outside vantage points of view as possible. Straps buckle down at the bottom which keep the curtains from blowing up. Curtains are high enough so that people on the outside cannot see in. Furthermore, we offer ways of securing the curtain sides to the structure walls, preventing any side openings from occurring.
  • The height of the curtains?
Curtains can be made as tall as 11 feet, depending on your privacy needs and your your screen enclosure. It is important to consider how high you need your curtains for privacy. If your curtains are taller than 7 or 8 feet, you most will likely need a stepladder to disconnect or connect each panels.
  • How to replace broken hooks?
Homeowners can easily replace broken hooks on outdoor curtains that have been exposed to the elements. Begin by taking out the stopper from the ends of the track. Pull the curtain all the way, until the nylon slider part of the hook assembly has left the track and reaches where it's broken. With pliers, open up and remove the stainless steel hook from its grommet before inserting a new one and closing with pliers. Finally, place all hooks back into their track system and put stoppers back at ends.
  • How breathable is the fabric materials?
The Sunbrella marine canvas is breathable. However, some of our less expensive PVC coated fabric materials are not breathable.
  • The width of the curtains?
Curtain width will depends on your pool enclosure and how you want them to look when opened. For the simple functionality of opening and closing, a lower number of panels make for a more easy and simple use. Let us know if you need additional curtain panels to create elegance of a cabana appearance.
  • What is the curtain's warranty?
There is no warranty coverage for wind damage, so following storm recommendations is imperative. It does cover defects in the manufacturer's construction of the curtains, including stitching and curtain functionality. The 10-year fade-free warranty on Sunbrella fabric covers color fading from sunlight, but not abrasion. Avoid constantly rubbing the curtains against hard and rough surfaces. See Sunbrella's limited warranty.
  • Removing the shade sails?
Its easy! Removing them is simple as long as you can reach the anchor points.
  • Cleaning the sails?
It's best to hose the sails off with water once a month. This will keep dirt and pollen from building up on the sails. Please see the SolaMesh cleaning guide.
  • How big can sails be?
The biggest sail we make is 8 feet by 8 feet in size. We want the sails to be easy to remove with minimal hardware which helps in installation and maintenance
  • Sails are so expensive?
We use PTFE thread which is non-flammable and has a lifetime warranty, so our sails are less expensive than sails of equal quality. Therefore, we offer a LIFETIME WARRANTY on all of our shade sails. We will replace damaged sails absolutely free with the exception of damage caused deliberately modifications to them.
  • Removing them in preparation for a storm?
Except for a hurricane, leaving the shade sails in place is safe. The sails fabric allows moisture and air to flow through and will not catch or sag with water.
  • Installing the sails?
Since our shade sails are small, we don't need cables or other hardware like the large playground shade sails. By attaching stainless steel eyebolts to your enclosure, we clip the sails on with snap-clips.
  • Fabrics we use?
SolaMesh fabric made by the manufacturer of Sunbrella outdoor fabrics. It comes with a fade-free 10-year warranty, is UV resistant, and is very durable.
